I have restarted it 3-4 times. I have resetted the kindle to factory settings, and then installed duokan. Still no boot menu! Even tried pressing '1' continuously... still the kindle2 boots into the default firmware.

Hmmm. That does seem strange. I, too, have a K2i, and it worked fine for me. Maybe try redownloading Duokan, and replacing just the DK_System folder. Here is where you can download the previous version:

The latest version actually defaults to Duokan on first boot, so you shouldn't even have to make a selection at the boot screen.
