The Sony plastic hinge (on my case-with-light) seems identical in material to my old 505's case, which did eventually crack and fail (without a lot of in-and-out of the hinges). I can appreciate how we want the hinge to pivot at least slightly as the case moves around in the hand but I agree the fit could be better.
