Starting to happen here in the wilds of Africa (well, South Africa actually, not all that wild...) where a main gripe for discussion on our leading connectivity forum is the non-availability of Kindles right now (up to three-month waiting list for everyone except US and UK customers). Disadvantage on a local flight though: being told to switch it off during landing and takeoff while all around continued to read their dead-trees books...

Some retailers are cashing in on the shortage here by offering cheap tablets as eReaders for the Christmas gift market.

Oh, and the nicest Kindle line I heard from a proud owner who also has the Amazon cover for his device: "First time in my life I can say truthfully that my entire book collection is leather-bound!"
