This reminds me of a phenomenon I observed in my long-ago youth. Sometimes I found myself at quasi-social activities where I had difficulty getting involved in a conversation. I would be bored, so I would pull out my book to read. But immediately, people who weren't interested in talking with me a moment ago would excitedly ask me what I was reading and want to talk about it.

That was irritating, so I've always enjoyed it when I've been able to read in a public place without anyone asking me what I was reading.

Judging from your experience, I may have to put up with it again when I venture out to read my eReader in public.

Oh well. It will be interesting to watch history unfold as we see eReaders take over more and more of the publishing world and thus change public acceptance, experience and behaviour.
