I have had the same experience. I do notice that the Nook Color plug is slightly bent, but I don't know whether it started bent (and thus the difficulty in insertion) or it became bent while trying to plug it in the first time.
I also don't really care. Other than the first night, I haven't used the B&N charger, instead preferring the charger already on my nightstand for charging my other microUSB devices.
