Funny you mention this! I was at my local B&N a few days ago and decided to have a hands-on with the NOOK (never had previously). I wasn't impressed. Just like you said, the maneuvering was awkward. One of the reasons I thinks it's due for a cosmetic refresh.
Sony have spoiled us with the touchscreens.
I agree the 650 is ideal if one doesn't need the features of the 950. In my case, I don't because I have the NOOKcolor. That was my original plan before placing myself in a holding pattern. I'll see how next year progresses. I think the Sony prices will come down permanently.
