I read for about two hours last night while plugged in and had no problems swiping.
Now, when the kids swipe pages on nookKids books with their wet multitouch techniques they've been able to lock up books to the point I had to back out to the home screen and reopen. I haven't been able to repeat these failures using Proper Swiping. So I do think it's possible to confuse the nookColor with spit and too many fingers.
