I guess it would depend on the implementation. If the powers that be chose to put such an option in place, they could hopefully make it so a tally is kept at the bottom of the particular post. That way each user could see if people generally "liked" or "disliked" that individual post. The way karma is done now, we can't really tell which posts added to a person's reputation.

There would, of course, be opportunities for abuse. A wave of kindle users could band together and put a "thumbs down" to any post that criticizes their preferred device. Sony users could then strike back in kind and you end up having a "Like/Dislike" war. Still, there is something to be said about allowing people to give positive feedback to a user and allowing others to see exactly where it came from.
