I have not really looked into this, some dr-specific libraries are used, but since the source code is available it should be possible to also build them for 'desktop'-linux. (Note that the DR is also running linux, so the DR-version is also a linux version of xournal, but I understand what you are asking for.)
The DR-version of xournal has some specific changes for the DR (like location of config-dir, adding new files to global.db etc.) It would not be that difficult to add the import feature to the desktop-linux version, but it would take time to do this. My time for the near future is limited, maybe someone else has time to take a look at it?

I see that fekhner already offered to help to convert to files, if you need any support from me, then send me a PM.

Good luck with the repair of your DR. (Since iRex is bankrupt, more people will be wondering where they should their DR repaired when it is broken. So if you find a company that can, please let the other forum members know.)
