And the non-technically challenged may decide it's simply more
convenient to buy from Amazon.
There's a thread elsewhere on Amazon and B&N offering converted public domain volumes from PG for sale. The sellers have simply repackaged in Kindle or ePub format and uploaded. Lots of folks are incensed. I'm not. Sure, you can get the source text free from PG, but if you happen to be browsing via your Kindle or nook, and see a PD text you've been meaning to read, you might find it worth it to spend a buck or tow to just download and start reading. The value you are paying for is the ease of access.

And for the newer "blockbuster" or "Big Name Author" DRM books, Amazon is more than adequate. But with my reader I can just wait for those to become available in the library, just as I did (most of the time) when I read on paper.
If you want the hottest book, there will be a higher price to pay. I don't blame Amazon for that.

Nor do I. Want it cheap? Wait, like you did before ebooks when you waited for the mass market paperback. Want it
now? Expect to pay a premium for early access.
