Aaaaarrrrggggghhhh Part II

I think I may know why the sd card was getting corrupted...
My "nice" new/refurbished Toshiba PPC is DYING!!!!!
In fact, it doesn't exactly take a Sherlock Holmes to figure that out because currently ... it is completely DEAD! Screen won't come on at all. Double Aaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh!

It is dead and won't turn on and won't reset and won't re-initialize. I'm going to let it charge overnight just in case it's a battery issue. But it was fully charged a couple hrs ago and I haven't used it since then, so I doubt that it the problem. I'll also check to see if I can wiggle any connectors. But it looks fried. We'll see what Toshiba custoer service has to say. Kind of makes you stop and think now before plopping down $500 or so on a new one.

I guess hardcopy Outlook calendar and tasks printouts will have to do for a few days until I can load all my data back to my Clie or get the Toshiba fixed or buy something new.

You know, given the amount of time I've spent on this silly gadget, I think I'm going minimalist next time I set up a pda. Sure I have fun tinkering, but at some point you've just gotta be economical with your hobby-related time. Besides, things usually work better when you don't push the envelope and just do the basic routine stuff. You know what I mean. The core apps. For me that means... iSilo, eReader, PI PIMs, e-Sword, HandyShopper, Tombo and eWallet. Plus maybe a game or two and something else neat like Sunrise. On a Palm, if I have to go back, that means iSilo, eReader, DateBk5 and PIMs, MyBible, HandyShopper, ShadowPlan and eWallet. Maybe I'll have better luck just leaving it at that.

And I gotta say that even though I'm pretty sure it's not a PPC vs Palm thing, but just a bad piece of refurbished hardware, I just don't get that warm gushy feeling about the dark side anymore. It's feeling darker and darker every day no matter how bright and pretty the screens look. (And so much for saving a buck with refurbished!)

Luck of the draw? Maybe. But I just didn't have this much problem with my PalmOS devices. It will be interesting to see how I feel in a few days after I have time for it all to sink in, and hear from Toshiba.
