Yes. The Nook will act like a USB drive (two drives if you have a microSD card installed) if you connect it. Any epubs or pdf's you put on there will be available - it's called 'sideloading'.

There's one caveat: If you want to use the B&N store, you need to register the nook. You'll need to have wifi access for this, but it should be a one-time thing, so any public access point (or the access point of a friend) will do fine.
