In the past few years the American Alligator has really come back up in population, to the extent that you routinely see them much further north than you used to. Except for the occasional one released by some idiot (which does happen), we don't see them up this far, but on Jekyll Island where I vacation every year they're all over the place, including the ponds on the golf courses. I always take a few gator pictures!

there were a couple of in-resident gators at Ft. Gordon
