But, like others have said, the browser is functional and only that. There are no bells and whistles. It's great for checking e-mail and doing very rudimentary things, like looking up a movie times or checking book reviews on Goodreads/LibraryThing. Doing more advanced things, like browsing forums, typing up responses, etc., is difficult.

Yep, I've read and sent emails through Gmail on my boyfriend's nook. Not very fast, but it worked. I use the nook's browser for things other people would use a smartphone for, basically. I don't know why Consumer Report's would list email as "not possible," but I did find their nook review to be inaccurate, at least in relation to my own experiences with it. (Which is a shame, since I've trusted CR for years, but they've dropped the ball on a few things lately.)
