I have about 200 or 300 books on at the moment and even that takes longer to refresh than I am comfortable with. I know that I don't need more than that but it is easier to load them all on than to figure out which ones to put on and which ones to leave on my computer.

Take a look at the NOOKColor. The processing power is there with more to spare. Everything is instant with 156 books on the device, even downloading 10 or 15 at once doesn't slow down the interface. I keep over 1500 songs, >150 books, and 3-10 movies on the device depending upon which SD card I have loaded. Swapping cards is fast, done with the device active and content is recognized right after the SD logo flashes on the screen. I have no issues with my NOOKColor speed.
