I have very limited access to the the 650. It was a gift. I'm assuming since the 650 was crashing so often, and I can create crashes on my 505, they are related.

Also, between steps 11 and 12, I recommend not pressing buttons while the formatting is still going on (while the spinning arrow is present).

I agree that this may alleviate the problem. However, if you reread what I posted, the crash did occur without pushing the button twice quickly.

I do this to get a formatting that I prefer. If you do a search in this forum, you will find many people who prefer EPub, and some who like LRF.

I may do this. The thing is, in the past I kept upgrading Calibre for a while, and at some point, I couldn't get the formatting I liked. I found it tedious/time consuming to do install/deinstalls, backing up the database, ... so I settled on the version I currently have.

How can I check the disk? And I'm not sure the likely hood of it being the disk, wouldn't that imply that the 650 also had a "bad" disk.
And FWIW, I while back, I went thru a round of technical support with Sony, and their ultimate reply was to use EPub.
Again, at this time I am content to live with MY crashes. Normally, they aren't going too happen often: I go through a book once a week, and say it happens every Nth book, so in typical use, every several weeks.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
