Yes. You are using a tablet. An SD card on a tablet makes sense.

Most folks are not going to get into trouble being able to store 3,500 books on their e-reader.

If someone wants to listen to a ton of audio books, an MP3 player makes more sense then an e-reader.

If someone wants to read books and listen to audio books an e-reader and MP3 player makes sense. My IPod Nano takes up no space and can hold 16 gbs of music. My Kindle takes up little space and holds 3,500 books.

You buy a device that fits what you want to do. I don't want to watch movies on my e-reader so I would not buy a tablet.
