I agree. I don't think the screen difference is a make or break deal. Given the choice, I would take the Pearl, all else being equal.
I did view the Nook (1.5) and the Color Nook outside in bright sunshine. The Nook was perfectly readable. The Color Nook was just awful. But take them inside the store and that Color Nook really looks nice. I didn't spend much time with the Color Nook as it was priced out of my budget and I wanted a longer battery life than it offers.
