I too just ordered a new 950 through Sony with a discount, but I only got 10% which equals $30 off. I would've loved to have gotten it for $250 instead of $270 but the lady that helped me was only willing to give the 10%. Good on you for trying a couple of times to get an operator who would give you the good deal (although it sounds like the first one wouldn't give you any deal at all).
However, when I was hesitant the lady also gave me free expedited shipping which she said was a $25 value, so I'm getting it sooner. So all in all I'm happy with the value I got.
I think the lesson here is that Sony, for the time being anyway, is giving some good discounts if you call up to order and "haggle" with them. I hope others on the fence take advantage of this if they can.
