I agree that 4GB is enough for any library (roughly 4000+ books) but I also see that audio books chew up space.
In the end it is a valid complaint that the kindle is one of the only readers without an SD card expansion slot. I keep all of my books to read on my NOOKColor and all audio files on my SD cards. I swap out sd cards depending on what I am doing at the time (watching movies, listening to music, audio books, etc). That option is not available to the kindle user and though there may be other workable options for a particular user, it does definitely limit the device.
