iandix, thank you so much!!!! I was going mad trying to figure this out.

ETA: Of course, my series had more than 9 books, so to get them to display correctly (rather than 1, 10, 2) you need to do this:

Format [Any format] Device [Nook]
Source template: {series} {series_index:0>2s} {title}
Destination Field [title]
