Fans in that particular country can't currently buy his book (legally) at all, so telling them to download it illegally isn't taking money out of his own pocket... and good word of mouth might even increase sales when a publishing deal is eventually worked out. I'm one of those weird people that'll buy it if it's possible. As I said I've got a huge TBR list at the moment so I'm not allowed to buy any ebooks at the moment, so hopefully by the time I've read those I can buy it legally.
Another option is asking the pbook for Christmas (which is available for me); my mother is panicking that she doesn't know what to buy for me since because I've switched to ebooks.
