I agree; it's rather unique to hear an author be so straight-forward about this. But if you really think about it, it's not all that surprising. Fans in that particular country can't currently buy his book (legally) at all, so telling them to download it illegally isn't taking money out of his own pocket... and good word of mouth might even
increase sales when a publishing deal is eventually worked out. It's advertising!
