Plus, the ability Amazon has to come like a thief in the night and steal books off of your eReader (sarcasm intended) is easily circumvented:

1) Leave your wireless turned off. If they had a way to remotely turn on the wireless feature -- or a timed phone home feature, they would have utilized it in the case of the 1984 fiasco. The fact that the book didn't disappear off of Kindles in which the wireless was turned off should ease the minds of the overly paranoid.

2) Back up your purchases on some other storage device.

3) Don't buy a Kindle.
