It's a lovely dream but I'm fairly sure that Amazon is converting the web server side into black and white low quality compressed webpages and then sending the reduced internet to the kindle. Similar to what skyfire does for people with slow connections. So even if you worked out how to tether your laptop to it you would not get anything useful, just their private low quality version of the internet in some compressed kindle language.

Admittedly I have zero proof of this but its logical and its hard to see why Amazon would be doing it any other way. They are hardly going to be sending full quality, big sized and colour internet pages to kindles and then having them convert it on the fly.

The only hope is that Amazons deal makes people ask why mobile phone firms, with their global networks, can't offer global connection deals? But given that USA mobile provider cheerfully get away with charging two or three times what the rest of the world pays I wouldn't count on it.
