a) The current US copyright law is life plus term. I would make it term plus life. Reasonable minds can disagree on the length of the minimum term. Originally the term was for 14 years, and I would be happy with that. I have no objection to the author receiving royalties for his entire life, even if he lives to be 100. (Irving Berlin complained because he outlived his copyright of Alexander's Ragtime Band.)
b) I would not require anyone to do anything that he does not want to do. All I am saying is...If you don't want to do it, you can't prevent someone else from doing it. Use it or lose it.
