I am actually very interested in Japanese culture and language, and there is actually alot of great academic material out there about the cultural obsession with adolescent girl and how it has influenced the overall art and entertainment of the country. Its on a whole different level of girls acting a certain way in a place like the US where they are just emulating what they see on TV.
The gothic lolita is actually getting more popular in the American subculture of video games as well. They are starting to port more and more of the gothic lolita bullet-hell games from Japan into America.
