You may have already checked this, but just in case: is it possible that the log in page is being opened in another browser window? Tap the browser's menu button in the upper-right-hand corner and tap "windows". See if it's there.

I've noticed that the browser tends to open new windows with new sessions, so old ones stack up on the list without getting closed. It seems like that would eventually cause memory or performance issues. Now I periodically bring up the list and kill them off. I like leaving a gmail and gdocs window open all the time for quick switching, but some kind of tab indicator on the browser would be nice.
