I read the book in a matter of days and was much the better for it. I am not sure if MR has them, but i am positive that Feedbooks has them.

At the very least MR has the original Captain Blood. I would have suggested it earlier, but the OP specifically said they were interested in books set from 1700 on. Since Captain Blood takes place in the closing days of James II's rule, it predates 1700.
The original at least was a great yarn, though one thing never made any sense. He became because of the unjust treatment he received at the hands of James II, so he takes his vengeance out on the Spanish... Oh well, still a fun book.
