Welcome to MobileRead KrowNB from a fellow Canadian. I definitely hope your wife enjoys that Kobo and converts you as well!
I myself am a gadget geek but found my current ereader to be better than my pbooks as I'm not opposed to making annotations on my ebooks. If the Kobo isn't your cup of tea, there are always the Sony Readers (more expensive though but well worth with) or you could import an ereader from abroad.
