I have to admit I'm doing the same, half closing it when the attendants pass by and then go on reading :=) I'm not feeling very guilty about this, since if one should follow these rules to switch off anything electric/electronic during takeoffs and landings, we would all have to switch off our watches and for those that have that, also their pace makers! One has to use some common sense I think on these things, if the attendants asks or questions, one can try to explain what the Reader really is.
