You are quite correct on the huge characters. I myself am having trouble creating characters smaller than one square centimetre. Unfortunately, the touchscreen technology that makes the device more usable with a finger, inherently makes using a stylus cumbersome. A resistive touchscreen is usually better in this regard despite washing out the output from the display situated underneath it.
Finding a solution to this problem won't be simple though due to the touchscreen technology in use on the PRS-X50 models I'm afraid.
