I don't understand what all of the doom and gloom is about. Linux will be the fourth kernel for Palm OS. If PalmSource ran into major problems with BeOS as the kernel for Cobalt (which appears to be the most likely scenario), then they had limited options. Start from scratch or do what Apple did migrating forward from OS9 to OS X after the Copeland debacle.
The analogy and similarities between PalmSource layering Palm OS on top of Linux and Apple layering OS X on top of Unix (Darwin) is a very appropriate and a great idea IMO.
It will also allow for a much wider range of hardware compatibility that Linux is well know for. Linux (and eventually Palm OS) will practically run on anything and scales very well.
