Seriously, my wife has some 20 or so orchids out on the stairs (ours is a second floor condo unit with outside stairs) and a couple tied to the palm tree of which about six are blooming. She also has 6-8 african violets blooming on the porch. The "cold" snap we has a couple of weeks ago (temps got down to a chilly 68F!!) didn't seem to bother them.
Orchids are, so far, one of only two plants I can't grow at all (the other is bamboo). My only mature african violet is sulking (I think it's not getting enough light in its current position.) I certainly couldn't grow either outside here!

Also - pics!

Thai basil and African Blue basil are both perennial - they're tender, though. The area I had them in isn't usually hit by frost, but this year it was - twice. Normal basil I don't have any problems growing (I usually end up making a lot of pesto towards the end of the growing season to use it all up!).
