A lot is made today about smoking. When I went to college it was a normal practice to smoke in class -- for both students and professors. It was the normal thing to do as part of the growth from teen to young adult. There was no stigma or special sections in restaurants or bars (pubs.) Today it is hard to find a place that allows smoking, people cluster just outside of office buildings. England has banned smoking in pubs and restaurants, as has NYC.
So here is a book written in the early 20th century about smoking in England.
