I have a copy of _Canoe and Boat Building: A Complete Manual For Amateurs_ I got from the Internet Archive (
http://www.archive.org/details/canoe...ldin00stepiala) The problem is the Kindle version of the book is riddled with OCR errors.
Now when in _A Thousand Miles In The Rob Roy Canoe_ the Rob Roy kept turning up as "the Hob Roy" and the "Rob Eoy" and the "Bob Hoy" I thought it was funny.
But Canoe and Boat Building has things like dimensions of canoes where I would really like to have the correct numbers, if only for my own learning process. The Internet Archive does make it possible to look at a scan of the book pages online, so I think I'll be able to determine what the numbers should be--is there a way I can correct them in the e-book, if only for my own convenience?
I'm afraid many of the programs people seem to recommend for handling mobipocket files won't work for me, because I'm using a Mac. I was hoping if I forced the mobi file to open in Textedit, .mobi would turn out to be like .html--regular text enclosed in tags, and I could just ignore the tags and correct the mangled text, but when I try it I just get gobbledygook--characters I never saw before and stuff.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
