Unfettered access to Marketplace can be achieved by either finding a standalone marketplace apk (they exist) for your version of Android or installing a hacked android environment into the Android emulator that comes with the SDK.

That said, I suspect android marketplace access may be overrated as the most desirable apps are free and readily available with a bit of web hunting; between this and the alternate marketplaces the only thing you're likely to miss is commercial apps from developers unwilling to take advantage of the alternate distribution channels. And if they don't want your money...
