So the two mobipocket downloads didn't cost you anything. I assume you can read the in "Mobipocket for PC"
If Mobi pocket for PC does not allow you to transfer the two e-books over then there must be DRM on those e-books. I have used Mobipocket for PC to copy non DRM mobi and prc e-books over to my jetBook as well as my Aluratek Libre Pro (ALP).
I assume your Library uses Overdrive and ADE DRM ePub/PDF for distribution of e-books. I also noticed that you were targeting specific e-books. I found that most of the time my selections were also out on loan due to the fact that they were either recent publications or very popular. May I suggest doing a general search using keys such as desired language, format (ePub) and then a specific gendre instead of an e-book title. Be sure to check off the box stating "Only books that are immediately available". By doing this you can methodically step through subjects that interest you and you may find other authors that may bridge the gap while waiting for your specific desires.
As you download an e-book via ADE - check it out right away before downloading the next one in your check out list. If it turns out that you are not happy with it - jump out to the Libray - Borrowed bookshelf of ADE and selecting that book's icon (top left corner of icon produces a drop down action list), hit "Return e-book" and that e-book will be removed from the list of e-books loaned out to you from your Local library. After you have checked out your whole list you can go back and re-fill and spots freed up by returned e-books.
