Do you mean changing the metadata plugboard for author to
{author_sort}{series}{series_index:0>2s| - | - }
ie:
device_db:any device = ([{series}{series_index:0>2s| - | - }{title}] -> title), ([{author_sort}{series}{series_index:0>2s| - | - }] -> authors) ?
