Lately I've been doing a fair bit of reading on my Droid, which is "narrowscreen," and for most usages it's great. I don't mind the screen for prose at all, and I've had great success with Aldiko and Kindle for Android in particular.
Unfortunately, the two things I want a color screen for, are comics (you can get almost the entire run of Planet Comics in the public domain) and some of the game rules PDFs I've bought over the years. Both of those benefit hugely from a single screen per page presentation, particularly double column PDFs.
So just like Eink vs. LCD, it's all horses for courses.
