The technician I spoke to was probably located in India as determined by the sound of his accent. He was not aware of any specific details but was able to access my unit from his location.

I mentioned to him the possibility of downloading 3.0.4 from an internet site but he said it is not yet available in that manner. However, he did say the Kindle Development Team have the resources to replace my firmware. Thus, they could downgrade me back to 3.0.1 or even upgrade me to an alpha 3.0.4.

They also have the ability to determine if my hardware needs replacement with a new unit. I'l know the answer in a few days.

When my first unit was replaced on Sep 9, 2010, this kind of control was not apparent. At that time CS, whose accent sounded American, just simply replaced my unit without anyone running any diagnostics.

See this thread for quite a few other folks with the same problem as me but all different from the folks in this thread:

Folks there attributed the problem to indexing of large books. My problems started with my purchase of the Unabridged Matthew Henry Commentary whish is TWENTY FIVE TIMES the size of a usual eBook. Maybe that is the problem. In that case there is really no solution and I will just have to tolerate the once per week reset.
