950 will not connect to computer but 350 does
I've had a 350 for several weeks now and never had any problems with it connecting to my desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I bought a 950 today from Best Buy, charged it for several hours using the included charger and cable. I charged it until the red light went out indicating a full charge. I then tried plugging the USB into my desktop and then into the 950. It started to install the driver, but I got a driver installation failed message. I tried restarting the computer and resetting the 950, but it won't connect. I tried my 350 and it connected right away.
When I try to connect the 950 I get a blank screen with "USB connected" written at the top, then eventually get the "Charging Stopped" message as it seems to be confused about the USB.
I used the Chat support from Sony and got no useful info. They said I had to take it back to Best Buy or send it to them for repair. They also said the driver for the 350 is the same for all their readers. They think the micro-USB port on the 950 isn't working correctly, but I seriously doubt it would have charged the 950 if that was the case. As usual, the Sony Chat was useless.
Anyone else encounter this problem?
Otherwise the 950 seems to work okay, although the WiFi is painfully slow. We have high speed internet, but the 950 takes a long time to download books from the store via WiFi. I also noticed that the search function in an ePub (Lord of the Rings) was stupidly missing some searches.
I love my 350, but I'm not feeling much love for the 950 or Sony.
