It seems to me that folks figure out how they want to do things like syncing and library management. There is no right or wrong and people often change their routine as they get more comfortable with the reader or their needs change.

My husband does not want to do anything more complex than attaching his Kobo-O and syncing over the desktop application. I have our networked computers set-up so that books in Calibre on my machine are automatically mirrored on Calibre on his computer, but, as far as I know, he never looks there (he really should because I have some goodies that were purchased from a source other than Kobobooks...). He's made that choice not because he is stupid or unsophisticated or tech-challenged. In fact, he's a very smart techie type who simply does not want to be bothered with all of that after spending his working hours at a computer. He just wants an easy way to get fiction onto his reader without a hassle.

I, on the other hand, like to fiddidle around with technology--it's a welcome change from my life as a social worker by day. Months can go by without my opening the Kobo desktop and I only sync there when I have purchased something not available as an ePUB file. I manage my library using Calibre making use of plugins and recipes etc.

In truth, he should have the WiFi version, and I should have the original Kobo. Different people, different preferences. it's all good...
