I'm confused. You'd rather not buy an ereader over the internet, or not use Ko2's* shop feature? If the former, you can get both Kobos and Sonys in stores (indeed, it seems that the reduced Ko1 is available only in stores now), and if the latter... the Ko2's shop feature seems little different than from any other method of buying ebooks, and is a poor reason to discount one ereader in favour of another. You'll still have to buy ebooks on the internet.

Also, Kobo is probably not going anywhere any time soon. I'd think that KoboBooks is still one of the best sources for EPUB books, if not ebooks in general, for Australians. As long as Kobo provides ebooks, people will always have an interest in their hardware.
