I have just started using Calibre, I have'nt got my ebook reader yet, still not sure which one to buy yet.

I have downloaded some Jeffery Deaver books and some James Patterson books and the James Paterson ones have stayed in one folder but the Jeffery Deaver books are all in individual folders.

Why won't the Jeffery Deaver books all go into the one folder? They all have the correct spelling in the metadata thing.

When I see the list of authors they all have a number next to it signifying how many books by that particular author, but I have 14 Jeffery Deaver books and they are all listed individually.

Hope I have explained this to you so someone understands lol

Thanks xxx
Look very closely.

Very minor appearing differences will cause that:
extra spaces, missing space, underscore used
different punctuation
Different Capital letter (mixed case) usage.

Now for the simple Fix
Select all the books by that Author.
Click Edit Metadata (bulk Mode)
tick the set Author sort box.
(Use this Trick needed for Windows or Case insensitive file systems, or it may not fix all of them)
Select a Version of the Authors name you Like. ADD A Letter or Number to the END
Save

Now select all those books again.
Select the Author Name Again and Remove the extra letter.
Again, tick set author sort
Save. Done
