The images do not change while the kindle is sleeping nor did they change under the original software/firmware. They only change to the next image, the next time the kindle goes to sleep.
The "screen saver" mode is not the old traditional one where the images kept changing to avoid burning an image in the monitor. The image only shows that the unit is "sleeping" as opposed to be fully off.
