New Device User: Kindle
Hello all!
I just received my Amazon Kindle yesterday and I'm enjoying using the device.
My first ebook reader was from SoftBooks, which I enjoyed as long as that lasted.
Between the SoftBooks device and my Kindle, I've been reading my ebooks on a series of Palm devices, the most recent being a Treo 680. Prior to the Treo, I used a Palm TX for my reading. I recently gave up reading on the Treo and went back to the Palm TX (screen size issue) and finally made the jump to the Kindle.
I'd given a great deal of consideration to the Sony PRS-500 and then almost purchased the PRS-505/LC, but put off making that choice because I am a Mac user. Then the Kindle basically solved the problem of the best way to get the books on the reading device by bypassing the need for a computer altogether. (Of course, the fact that it is just a plain ol' USB mass storage device when it is attached to a computer helps too, no special programs needed for loading files!)
I really like my Kindle, but it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The page turn buttons are just too big, they're in the way of "everything" when it comes to handling the device. When I first saw the Kindle, I thought it ugly, but I find I don't notice that as much as I thought I would. The UI has some rough edges, but I suspect they will be ironed out over time.
Hopefully Amazon will keep working to enlarge the base of titles available for the Kindle.
