Well yes, unless they came from Mandelbrot's fertile brain. Err, equation. Then, the closer you look, the longer the coastline gets. Do you measure England's coastline (or better yet, Australia's) on a 12" globe? Or on a 1 inch to 100 km map? Or use a tape measure, on your knees, on the actual island? Or using an electro microscope, at the grain of sand and then the sub-atomic level? The coastline gets longer depending on how closely you look and where you round off your numbers. (See, I learned from the articles about Mandelbrot's recent death. Cool stuff, that!)
