Tables help to stabilize formatting. They are frequently used stabilize the formatting of websites and vanity press printings directly from Word files.

Nothing wrong with cheap as long as it doesn't adversely affect anyone else. Have you tried PDFCreator? As good as Cute PDF is, PDFCreator is much better. To be able to create a PDF page that will properly fill your e-reader screen, you will have to add a custom page size to the virtual printer. I've done this in PDF Creator but it's been so long, I can't remember how now.
