the screen is not terribly different than a Kindle 2 (don't have the 3). the biggest drawback is possibly the page turn buttons. they aren't terribly bad, I got used to mine, and I was going to wait on a K3, but ended up with the K2 because the person I gave it to died. the one really nice thing about the K1 is the ability to replace the battery and having the memory card. for that reason alone I will always keep my K1 even though I don't use it, I send my "keeper" books to it.
just make sure that everything is in full working order before you complete the transaction, INCLUDING being able to register it as we have had some nightmares reported in here.
